Clouds of pea-shaped flowers, beanlike seeds and finely textured foliage decorate these deciduous and evergreen trees. Use them in lawns as accent or shade trees or as street trees. Their fragrant flowers are yellow, white or violet. Evergreens grow only in the South. Once established, they tolerate heat, drought and some air pollution. They prefer sandy loam and warm, dry summers. Seed pods may leave a yellow stain where they fall. Prune to remove deadwood.

Slow-growing, it has fragrant, violent flowers. Its woody, poisonous fruit holds red seeds used as beads. Train into a single or multi-trunked tree. Untrained, use as a bank cover or large screen.
