Spathiphyllum wallisii

Peace Lily, Spathiphyllum clevelandii, Spathiphyllum wallisii 'Clevelandii'

Beloved houseplants with slender leaves and elegant, lasting white flower spathes, they can spend mild summers on an outdoor veranda. They grow year-round in subtropical or tropical gardens, spreading by underground or surface rhizomes. Varieties grow to different heights. Silver Streak's matte leaves have a silver central rib. The tasson variety blooms most reliably. Spathiphyllum wallisii and Spathiphyllum cannifolium bear fragrant flowers. They need plenty of bright indirect light, especially in winter. Keep out of hot windows. Grow in a moist but well-draining, fibrous soil. Water moderately and keep humid, especially in warm weather. They tolerate lower humidity and light, but will bloom less under these conditions. Feed monthly when growing. Keep winter temperatures above 60º F. Only Spathiphyllum wallisii tolerates cold down to 50º F. Repot as needed, usually every 3 or 4 years. Grow seeds in moist moss, or divide in late winter or early spring.
