Thelesperma burridgeanum 'Brunette'
Greenthreads, Cosmidium burridgeanum, Coreopsis atrosanguinea
Their contrasting, daisylike flowers add zing to an informal bouquet. Closely related to Coreopsis, their bright gold to russet-red rays fan out from deep red to purple central discs. A few produce simple disc flowers without rays. Great annuals and perennials for a mixed bed, cutting garden, or meadow, they keep blooming all summer. The most widely grown, Thelesperma burridgeanum (Burridge Greenthread), has flowers with a purple disk and deep orange petals edged with yellow. Thelesperma trifidum's purple centers with bright yellow rays, 1½ inches across, sway on branching stems 1 to 2 feet tall. They do fine with full sun in any well-drained moderately fertile, slightly sandy soil. Sow in spring, or in fall in wild climates. Stake for cut flowers, or where exposed to wind. Keep weeded, water regularly, and deadhead. |

Enhance annual beds and borders with this graceful, free-flowering plant. Its fine, long stems carry eye-catching golden-yellow and red flowers. Easy to grow. Prefers warm weather.
