Weigela florida

Old Fashioned Weigela, Florida Weigela

This large group of deciduous shrubs is valued for their massive display of late-spring, tubular-shaped flowers. The most common species is the Old Fashioned Weigela, though several hundred cultivars and hybrids are available. Prune to encourage compact growth and prevent legginess. Blossoms are borne on 1-year-old branches, so prune heavily during or just after flowering to encourage next year's blossoms. Unattractive when blooms are gone.
