Soap Tree, Soap Weed

Large clusters of white or violet flowers bloom on these evergreens, which are stemless and can reach the size of small trees. Some flowers are fragrant at night. Clusters of pointed, sword-shaped leaves can be dangerous near walks or patios unless sharp tips are clipped. Drought-tolerant and fire-retardant. Young plants can be grown indoors. Remove faded flower stalks and dead leaves.

Its swordlike leaves form a clump at the base of a single tall stem. Generates suckers. The flower stalk rises 6 feet, bearing blooms that are cream-white or tinged green to rose.
