Plants in clay pots require more water than those in plastic pots. Also the plants in clay pots can "breathe" easier.

When you change the water in a fish tank, put the old water in the soil of household plants. Fish water contains nutrients, is the proper temperature, and is free of chlorine and chemicals.

The next time you hard-boil eggs, don't throw out the nutrient-rich water. Use it to water your house plants.

Watering while on Vacation
« Reply #6 on: November 28, 2005, 02:31:01 am »
When you go on vacation, cover your plants using a clear plastic bag that is large enough to accommodate each of them. Then place the enclosed plant in a shallow pan with pebbles and some water. This set-up should be sufficient for 7-8 days. For an extended vacation, ask someone to check on them regularly.
