Bulb Pests
« on: November 28, 2005, 01:26:21 am »
Voles, chipmunks, squirrels and other rodents think your bulbs are a tasty treat. The following are suggestions to help discourage them:

1. Use Bulb Booster or rock phosphate instead of bone meal, which attracts animals.

2. Place clam and oyster shells or crushed eggshells in the holes with your bulbs. These sharp objects will discourage digging around your bulbs.

3. Plant a generous supply of daffodils with your other spring bulbs. Rodents usually avoid daffodils.

Another tip for bulbs: look for ones that are like "twins" (by this, I mean bulbs that are kind of two in one)... they have a greater chance of producing two flowers.
