How many plants?

I understand that having plants in the house is good for you.  Is there a specific number or type of indoor plant that works best?

I have no idea how many plants is good. It probably depends on the home's layout. More plants means more plants to care for also. If time is an issue, then you may not want to take the "Amazon Jungle" approach...  ;)

Another thing to consider is if there are any small children in the house. They like to get into things, and a ceramic pot (even a small one) placed at a location accessible to a youngster could be dangerous. Especially if it is in a high location and contains a viny plant that hangs outside the container. Be sure to think about those things even if you don't have kids, because you may have friends or relatives with kids who will be visiting.

Absolutely be careful of the kids and for other reasons as well.  They will eat your plants and so will your pets.  Be careful not to have anything that looks tempting to eat that may be seriously toxic if ingested by a small tot or even your pet.
