| Tall, showy stalks of helmet-shaped flowers rise above the palm-like foliage. Flowers come in blue, purple, white or yellow. These poisonous plants grow best in rich, moist, cool soils with some shade during the warmest time of day. Japanese Anemone, Astilbe, Campanula and ferns make excellent companion plants. Cut back stalks after first blooms for another flowering. Stake tall plants. Start by seed for second- or third-year bloom. They do not like being moved and are difficult to start by division. |
