These 7 aromatic perennial herbs grow throughout Western Europe into Central Asia, as well as in Northern Africa and North America. Their white, red, orange or purple flowers have hairy throats. Some grow in clumps to 10 inches high. Others are spreading or prostate. Some species develop a woody base. Use in dry, sunny borders, rock gardens and containers.
Shorter than C. grandiflora, this bushy type is also known as the 'Forncett Form'. Its leaves are strongly flecked with off-white. Often grown in herb gardens.
