Callicarpa japonica 'Luxuriant'
Luxurian Beautyberry
These shrubs are grown for their showy, lilac- or violet-colored fruit, which lasts for 2 to 3 weeks in late fall. Best fruiting occurs when planted in groups. Most die back close to the ground in very cold climates, but often start again in spring to flower and fruit that season. Fruit are borne on new growth, so in warm climates, prune to 6 inches above ground in early spring. Pruning also prevents rank growth. Feed with low-nitrogen fertilizers to avoid fast, leggy growth. |

This variety is popular for producing masses of violet berries in large, hanging clusters in early fall.
