Chinese Fringe Tree

These graceful, elegant large shrubs or small trees are from Asia and the United States. They produce many clusters of small white flowers. Female plants produce small purplish-black fruit if mailes are present. Hardy in the Northwest with some protection from cold and wind. Prefers sun and moist, sandy loam.

Smaller but more eye-catching than the American Fringe Tree, with showy flowers at the tips of branches and, in older plants, handsome grayish brown bark. Multi-trunked spreading shrub or tree or single-trunked tree.
