Chionanthus virginicus

White Fringetree

These graceful, elegant large shrubs or small trees are from Asia and the United States. They produce many clusters of small white flowers. Female plants produce small purplish-black fruit if mailes are present. Hardy in the Northwest with some protection from cold and wind. Prefers sun and moist, sandy loam.

This native tree blooms earlier than the Chines species, C. retusus, and has larger flower clusters.
