Cornus nuttallii

Pacific Dogwood, Mountain Dogwood

This large group of trees, shrubs and ground covers features plants with attractive flowers and foliage, colorful bark and dependable fall color. Dogwoods are often used as flowering accents, architectural screens or mat-like ground covers. Prune out the oldest branches every year to encourage new growth.
Cornus nuttallii, Pacific Dogwood, Mountain Dogwood
White or white-tinged-pink bracts appear on its gray-barked branches before leaves. In the fall, it often flowers again against the yellow, pink, and red leaves. More difficult to grow than C. florida. Avoid regular watering. Injury to its bark can bring pests and disease.
