Cotoneaster horizontalis

Rock Cotoneaster

This fast-growing group of evergreen-to-deciduous shrubs and ground covers features showy fruits that attract birds. Most are low-maintenance shrubs, requiring meager amounts of water and only occasional pruning to control shape and size. Plant in full fun, except in desert climates, where they need shade during the hottest time of day. Watch for fireblight. They do not transplant easily.
Cotoneaster horizontalis, Rock Cotoneaster
The flat horizontal branches are arranged in a distinctive fishbone pattern that draws attention in rock gardens, trailing over walls or along sloping banks. Espalier Rock Cotoneaster for emphasis. Semideciduous in mild climates. Prune stray vertical branches to maintain prostrate habit.
