The green stems are ornamental when leaves are gone. Scores of cultivars with a wide variety of flower colors are available. Cut flowers last up to six days. Only container-grown plants can be transplanted, though plant spreads by vigorous seedlings. Plant in well-drained sandy soil. Prune to shape and remove deadwood.
