Cytisus scoparius

Scotch Broom, Broom

Cytisus is a showy, fast-growing but short-lived shrub that is covered by flowers in spring and early summer. Deciduous in four-season climates, it is evergreen in mild climates. The green stems are ornamental when leaves are gone. Scores of cultivars with a wide variety of flower colors are available. Cut flowers last up to six days. Only container-grown plants can be transplanted, though plant spreads by vigorous seedlings. Plant in well-drained sandy soil. Prune to shape and remove deadwood.
