California Poppy

This group of about 10 species of brightly colored poppylike flowers includes California's state flower, the California Poppy. All herbaceous, they produce clear sap and branch from the base. Fully hardy. Requires sun and grows well in poor, very well drained soil. Propagate by seed outdoors in spring or early autumn.

The bright orange or yellow blooms of California's state flower dot hillsides, brighten gardens, and line paths and roads all over the state from late winter to spring.
