Forsythia intermedia
Border Forsythia
One of the earliest winter bloomers, their dramatic yellow sprays of scentless flowers appear on arching or trailing bare branches February to April. Lush green foliage follows. The height of these vigorous-growing plants ranges from 1 to 10 feet. Use in shrub borders or containers, as screens or banks, or trained to grow against a wall or fence. Pest- and disease-resistant, they thrive in full sun or light shade, and almost any soil. Forsythia ovata (Korean Forsythia) is the most cold-resistant and earliest-blooming. Prune after flowering. Leave side branches, but remove weak or dead wood. Water during dry spells, as plants wilt in dry weather. |

Water this hardy early bloomer during dry spells to prevent wilting.
