Forsythia suspensa

Weeping Forsythia

One of the earliest winter bloomers, their dramatic yellow sprays of scentless flowers appear on arching or trailing bare branches February to April. Lush green foliage follows. The height of these vigorous-growing plants ranges from 1 to 10 feet. Use in shrub borders or containers, as screens or banks, or trained to grow against a wall or fence. Pest- and disease-resistant, they thrive in full sun or light shade, and almost any soil. Forsythia ovata (Korean Forsythia) is the most cold-resistant and earliest-blooming. Prune after flowering. Leave side branches, but remove weak or dead wood. Water during dry spells, as plants wilt in dry weather.
Forsythia suspensa, Weeping Forsythia
Use this large weeping shrub to cover slopes and banks or cascade down walls and embankments where the long branches can trail. Not as many bright golden-yellow flowers as F. x intermedia.
