Liriodendron tulipifera

Tree Tulip

These massive shade trees have uniquely shaped leaves. Once trees reach 10 years of age, tuliplike flowers appear in spring. Plant with enough space to accommodate their tall, wide growth and enormous root system. Tolerate heat, wind and humidity. Start from seed. Difficult to transplant once established. Remove weedy seedlings. Prune in winter. Protect from strong winds that cause limb damage. Give supplemental water in dry summer regions.
