Pistacia chinensis

Chinese Pistache

These deciduous and evergreen trees blaze with color in the fall. Their feathery, lance-shaped leaves range from red to yellow. Flowers are inconspicuous. When planted near male trees, females bear berrylike fruit. They make excellent street or shade trees. One type, Pistacia vera, produces edible pistachio nuts. Prone to verticillium wilt, so plant in well-drained soil and water deeply and infrequently. Prune and stake to develop single trunks with high crowns.
Pistacia chinensis, Chinese Pistache
