Tough and hardy, Spiraea tolerate sun or light shade and many different soil types as long as drainage is good. It is a large genus of shrubs with showy white, pink, or rosy-red flowers. Prune spring-blooming species during or just after flowering. Prune summer-flowering species from late winter into early spring. Deadhead old flowers to extend blooming.

Its several low-growing cultivars are more often grown than the species. Reaching 2 to 3 feet tall, shrubs produce rosy to pink flowers. Leaves emerge red or bronze, maturing to shades of green.
